a latex and cheesecake intelligent polymer mix

So seeing as it’s Friday and I’ve already brought you two wedding blogs this week I thought I’d end the week with something a bit different.  Okay, quite a bit different.  Because while I genuinely love shooting weddings I do think it’s crucial that if I’m going to grow and challenge myself I don’t get stuck being a one-trick pony.  Not that I can really recall ponies even doing single tricks to be honest.  I’ve seen them giving sticky fingered children slow trudging rides along the lank sands of grey coastal towns in the south of England, but that’s hardly juggling, conjuring or Derren Brown-style mesmerism now is it.  Anyway, don’t get me started on those spavin-kneed mules, this isn’t about them, it’s about a series of flyers I produced for Club Rub — an almost disconcertingly friendly and easy going London fetish club.  To be honest I’m not exactly sure how the project came about.  I know that Kim, who’s been running the club for 14 years now, approached me after some of the photojournalism I’d shot on the club nights themselves, but I don’t recall the conversation that kicked all this off.  I just remember that suddenly I was shooting fetish flyers and trying to bring something of my own to the genre — which tends to be either very glossy studio shots or stark, flash-lit black and white images in a darkened stairwell someplace.  What I tried to do is shooting everything with natural or available light (even when that meant opening the curtains and then breaking the curtains in Kim’s superbly decked-out bedroom).  Sometimes that wasn’t possible of course, and the shots of Helen in the peaked leather cap and the numinous Cherry Mae pinging through the lens in her Lucie Latex finery are both studio lit.  But whichever way we did it I was always keen to bring a pin-up sensibility to the final image.

Each shoot was just flat out brilliant fun to do and everyone was amazing to work with.  From Ana Mantis cheesecaking it up wonderfully along the canals of Maida Vale to getting locked in the cemetery with Miss Arabella Bow after we’d barely got a shot in the camera.  But the highlight, in terms of fun on the streets, has to go to the catsuit shoot.  Kim and I took to the backstreets of East London, with ‘Conkerboy’ looking fantastic, standing about six and a half feet tall in a head-to-toe latex catsuit, complete with tail.  This being London no one really even raised an eyebrow.  Reactions ranged from curious to indifferent — with one guy somehow managing to lock up his shop and entirely ignore the fact that were was a giant shiny six foot cat standing next to him like something out of fetish re-interpretation of The Master & Margarita.  The best response was from a London cabbie who insisted Conkerboy got in and pose for some shots behind the wheel of his Hackney cab.  However, each shoot was just as enjoyable as the next in terms of experimenting and trying something a little different.

Take a look at the results yourselves and let me know what you think.  The first six images are the ones that became flyers.  The rest are the outtakes.

Also, each image is available to buy as a print.  Contact me for details.

As someone who’s a big fan of fetish clubbing, modeling and kinkster lifestyle in general, I must say these images kick ass!
